Brian Michael Bendis has confirmed that his Powers pilot is still in the works at FX.

A first pilot based on the comic series was shot last year, but the cable network declined to pick the project up to series.

Updating fans on Twitter, Bendis wrote: "We've a ways to go to get Powers on the air but... good news just happened."

He added: "Stay tuned. FX'll announce stuff when ready."

In July, FX president John Landgraf announced that a second Powers pilot may be shot before a final decision is made on the project's fate.

At the time, Jason Patric - who played super-powered cop Det. Christian Walker in the original pilot - was expected to reprise his role.

"If we elect to move forward... I think we will just go back and reshoot the pilot from scratch, with a new cast in all probability," said Landgraf.

"[But] I think there's a possibility that some of the original cast members might return. Jason Patric certainly wants to look at the material and wants to render an opinion about whether he still wants to be involved in the project."
