'Outlander' novels to be adapted for TV by Starz

Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore has sold his adaptation of the Outlander novels to Starz.

The cable network has closed a deal to develop Moore's project based on Diana Gabaldon's book series, according to Deadline.

The original novels - which have sold over 20 million copies - follow British Army nurse Claire Randall as she is transported back in time from 1945 to 18th century Scotland, embarking on an epic romance with Scots warrior Jamie.

Moore - whose past credits also include Carnivàle and the Star Trek TV franchise - will write the series adaptation for Starz.

Starz has a number of other historical dramas currently in development, including Da Vinci's Demons starring Tom Riley and Lara Pulver and pirate thriller Black Sails from producer Michael Bay.

A series based around Marco Polo and royal drama The White Queen are also in the works.
