An Officer and a Gentleman director Taylor Hackford is to produce a new Navy TV drama.

Norfolk will be written by ex-Supernatural showrunner Sera Gamble, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The pilot will focus on the personal and work lives of the young crew at the Norfolk Naval Station.

Hackford previously helmed 1982's An Officer and a Gentleman - which starred Richard Gere as a Naval officer - as well as 1997's The Devil's Advocate and 2004's Ray.

His next film project is the action movie Parker starring Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez and Michael Chiklis.

Writer Gamble - who will also executive produce alongside Hackford - served as showrunner on The CW's Supernatural for two seasons. She is currently developing another pilot with ABC - a medical drama co-produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrow).
