Fringe showrunner Joel Wyman has described his new sci-fi drama as "big and bombastic".

The producer will re-team with Fringe co-creator Abrams on the Fox pilot, described as a futuristic "buddy cop" series.

"It's a cool landscape and everything I learned from Fringe as a storyteller is going to be poured into that, and everything JJ has learned will go into it, so I can pull from his amazing expertise," Wyman told SFX.

"It's going to be this great big, loud thing we hope will be successful. It gets me excited when I think about it."

Wyman explained that he is working on the new pilot while also making the final episodes of Fringe, which is set to wrap on Fox early next year.

"It's funny because when ideas come, they come fast and furious," he explained. "I'm anxious to get going on it but at the same time I'm conflicted because it's like I'm putting one show to bed and giving birth to another."

Wyman previously told Digital Spy that his latest collaboration with Abrams "deals with some incredible themes" and the idea of "humanity vs technology".

"I'm sort of obsessed with the idea of... humanity vs technology and what's happening to us," he revealed. "These types of things concern me and they also concern JJ.

"We're interested and we can see a great platform for us to tell a massive story that deals with all these cool things."
