Based on the Scandinavian crime drama, the pilot stars Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) and Demian Bichir (Savages) as two cops who team up to track down a killer operating in both the US and Mexico.
Lillard has won the recurring role of Daniel Frye, a reporter whose work suffers as a result of his hard-partying lifestyle, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 42-year-old actor is best known for his roles in such films as 2002's Scooby-Doo and last year's The Descendants. His recent television credits include guest stints on House, Criminal Minds and Leverage.
Homeland's Meredith Stiehm and Hawaii Five-0's Elwood Reid will executive produce the Bridge pilot, with Mexican filmmaker Gerardo Naranjo attached to direct.
The West Wing actress Annabeth Gish and Monk's Ted Levine will also appear in the drama, which is currently in production.
