Ricky Gervais to host 'Saturday Night Live'?

Ricky Gervais will reportedly host an upcoming Saturday Night Live.

The Derek actor revealed on his blog that he has agreed to helm the NBC sketch comedy series for the very first time next year.

"[I] promised the SNL lot that I'd host next year. I've been invited to do it so many times but I was never available," Gervais wrote.

He continued: "I'm going to do it next year whether it coincides with me plugging something or not. It might even be better if I don't have to restrict it to jokes about the movie or TV show I'm flogging. Pure fun. You'll be the judge of that."

Gervais previously made a cameo appearance on Saturday Night Live in a 2008 episode hosted by Steve Carell to introduce a spoof of The Office set in Japan.

This weekend's Saturday Night Live is hosted by The Avengers star Jeremy Renner and features musical guest Maroon 5.

Saturday Night Live airs at 11.30/10.30c on NBC.
