"I heard that American Horror Story got renewed for a third season," Margolis told Dread Central. "Maybe I'll be in the third season as some of the cast from the first season showed up in the second."

He added: "I love doing it. They do some very nice work."

The 72-year-old described the writing on American Horror Story as "wonderful" but admitted that he is only given "pieces" of each episode's script at a time.

"I didn't actually know what was happening in the rest of the episode," he explained. "I never had that experience before. Usually you get the whole script, no matter what you're doing in it.

"They're very secretive about everything, and for whatever reason, they don't want the actors to know what's going on with the other characters in the show."

American Horror Story was officially picked up for a third season by FX last week, with Jessica Lange currently the only cast member confirmed for the new run.

The series airs on FX UK on Tuesdays in the United Kingdom.
