By
Classic crime drama Ironside is to be revamped by NBC.

The original 1967-75 series starred Raymond Burr as a San Francisco cop confined to a wheelchair after suffering a paralysing gunshot wound.

Person of Interest's Dave Semel is attached to direct the reboot pilot, according to Vulture.

Michael Caleo (The Sopranos) will script the new Ironside, which will remain faithful to the premise of the original series.

Ironside - which was previously revived with the original cast for a 1993 television film - saw star Burr earn six Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nods across its eight-season run.

This pilot season, NBC developed a revamp of '60s series The Munsters with Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller but the project was not picked up to series, with the pilot episode ultimately airing as a one-off TV movie.
