The X Factor USA judge LA Reid has suggested that the time is right for him to leave the Fox series.
Reid's act Tate Stevens won The X Factor's $5 million prize over Carly Rose Sonenclar on Thursday (December 20), ensuring that the music mogul's final season was successful.
Speaking to Access Hollywood after Thursday's taping, Reid was asked if he is regretting leaving The X Factor given Stevens's grand final triumph.
"No. What other way [is there] to leave than to leave a winner?" he replied.
Reid continued: "You always have to know when to bow out. You bow out when you are on top."
He was also asked to offer some advice to whoever replaces him on The X Factor's judging panel.
"My advice is that I hope whoever my successor is really loves music and really loves talent," he commented. "[I hope my replacement] really gets into it and really sort of makes his judgements based on a musical emotion instead of an intellectual [style of] trying to find words."
Simon Cowell has been coy about the likelihood of fellow judges Demi Lovato and Britney Spears returning next year, but has said that he enjoyed working with them both.
