Christmas TV ratings: Basketball, festive repeats on top

NBC topped the TV ratings on Christmas Eve thanks to George Bailey and It's a Wonderful Life.

The annual broadcast of the 1946 classic won the best ratings with a 1.5 18-49 demographic score and 5.62 million viewers from 8pm, up 7% from last year.

Elsewhere, it was mostly repeats and broadcasts of festive specials. ABC's Prep & Landing took in a 0.9 score (3.4m), down 35% from December 11. Shrek the Halls was down 60% from November 28 to 1.0 (3.41m).

The CW's TV movie Christmas is Here Again attracted a 0.3 score (0.81m) at 8pm, while Second Star to the Left took a 0.2 (0.61m) at 9.30pm.

On Christmas Day, ABC won the 18-49 demographic due to the end of its basketball coverage. The game took a preliminary score of 3.0 (8.44m) from 8pm.

CBS won the most viewers overall with its repeated lineup of NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and Vegas.

ABC's broadcast of How the Grinch Stole Christmas attracted a score of 1.7 (4.46) from 9pm.
