Woman killed in CNN Centre shooting

A woman was killed on Tuesday afternoon in a shooting at CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta, the city's Grady Memorial Hospital has confirmed.

Her alleged attacker is reported by CNN to be in hospital undergoing surgery, having been shot by a Turner Broadcasting security guard.

The incident took place a mere 30 feet from an entrance to CNN.com's newsroom. That entrance is located near the Omni Hotel, which forms part of the CNN Centre complex. CNN, quoting the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office, reported that the deceased woman was an Omni Hotel employee.

The CNN.com newsroom was evacuated as the incident progressed, but the newsrooms for CNN's domestic and international news channels, which are located on higher levels in the complex, were unaffected.

Atlanta police characterised the incident as a "domestic situation."
