Julia Roberts to star in Ryan Murphy's 'The Normal Heart'

Julia Roberts has signed on to star in Ryan Murphy's upcoming television movie The Normal Heart.

Based on the award-winning stage play written by Larry Kramer, the story is set in the 1980s and deals with the rise of the AIDS epidemic.



According to WENN, Roberts will play a wheelchair-bound doctor who treats HIV-positive patients.

Mark Ruffalo and Billy Crudup have also signed on to star in the adaptation, which will be produced and overseen by Murphy.

Roberts recently signed a deal to star in another stage adaptation, August: Osage County opposite Meryl Streep.

The Normal Heart is set to premiere on HBO in 2014.
