The series stars Callie Thorne as Dr. Dani Santino, a therapist who treats athletes, musicians, politicians and others who live in the spotlight.
The ten-episode pick-up means that the show is the last of USA's original series to have its fate resolved - Psych, Burn Notice, Suits, Royal Pains, White Collar and Covert Affairs were all previously renewed by the cable channel.
Meanwhile, Sarah Shahi's Fairly Legal, cop series Common Law and Sigourney Weaver drama Political Animals have all been cancelled.
It was first reported back in November that Necessary Roughness was nearing a third season order.
"Necessary Roughness is an important page in our network playbook," USA's co-presidents Jeff Wachtel and Chris McCumber said in a joint statement.
"With a standout team of actors and writers playing at the top of their game, the upcoming seasons promise to deliver high-impact and creative storytelling."
The show's second season will resume on Wednesday, January 23 at 10/9c.
