The comedy - from Parenthood's Jason Katims - is based on the Nick Hornby novel of the same name.

Hornby's book was previously adapted into a 2002 film starring Hugh Grant and Nicholas Hoult.
Favreau - who recently directed the pilot for NBC's hit drama Revolution - is now attached to the new television version, Deadline reports.
The actor/director is known for helming 2008's Iron Man and its 2010 sequel, as well as 2011's Cowboys & Aliens.
NBC's About a Boy pilot marks the second attempt to bring the book to television, with Fox previously shooting a pilot in 2003. That adaptation - which was not picked up to series - featured Grey's Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey in the lead role and was directed by Ken Kwapis (The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants).
