Maya is the best friend of the show's lead Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) - daughter of original Boy Meets World stars Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishell).

Girl Meets World will enter production next month, with Savage and Fishell both reprising their original roles and Boy Meets World creator Michael Jacobs on board as executive producer.

Jacobs recently claimed that more Boy Meets World stars - such as Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) - could appear in the follow-up series as it continues.

"Whoever wants to be part of this show will be and whoever wants to move on will," he said. "The most important thing is to see what the show is and then see what their part in it will be."
