The comic is partnering on the as-yet-unnamed pilot with producer Steve Greener, with whom she previously collaborated on her reality series Roseanne's Nuts, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Barr's project would be her second series attempt with NBC in the last two years, after previously completing a pilot for a sitcom called Downwardly Mobile.
Downwardly Mobile was to have reunited Barr and former co-star John Goodman as members of a family struggling in tough economic times, but the project was not picked up by NBC.

Barr famously starred in the highly-rated and critically acclaimed sitcom Roseanne for ABC between 1988 and 1997.
That series earned Barr a Golden Globe as well as four Primetime Emmy nominations for 'Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series'.
Last year, Barr grabbed headlines while running for the US presidency as the official candidate of the Peace and Freedom Party.
She finished sixth in the November election, which was won by incumbent Barack Obama.
