'Phil Spector' HBO trailer, starring Al Pacino, Helen Mirren - watch

A new trailer has been unveiled for HBO Films biopic Phil Spector.

Al Pacino plays the iconic music producer in the feature-length special, which also stars Helen Mirren as attorney Linda Kenney Baden.

Phil Spector premieres on Sunday, March 24 at 9pm.The film explores Spector's relationship with Baden in 2007, prior to his later conviction for second-degree murder.

Mirren stepped into the role of Baden when Bette Midler pulled out after suffering a herniated disc.

Spector gained fame in the 1960s for his Wall of Sound production technique, working with The Crystals, The Ronettes, The Righteous Brothers and others.

He produced The Beatles' Let It Be and solo albums by John Lennon and George Harrison before working on Leonard Cohen's Death of a Ladies' Man and The Ramones' End of the Century.

After several years away from music, he worked with Starsailor on tracks from 2003's Silence Is Easy.

Later that year he shot dead actress Lana Clarkson in his California home.

After a 2007 mistrial due to a hung 10-2 jury, Spector was found guilty of second-degree murder in a second trial in 2009. He is currently serving 19 years to life.

Spector's bid to appeal his murder conviction was turned down by a California court in 2011.

Pacino has said that he did not want to meet Spector in jail before his performance.
