Monday ratings: 'How I Met Your Mother', 'Carrie Diaries' reach highs

CBS topped Monday night's preliminary ratings in both the 18-49 demographic and total viewers once again.

How I Met Your Mother - which saw the return of Robin Sparkles (Cobie Smulders) - rose 8% to a new season high score of 4.0 (10.32 million viewers), topping the night overall.

Rules of Engagement returned with a decent 3.1 (9.33m) at 8.30pm. This is 14% down on its previous season premiere, but up a huge 48% from its last episode in May 2012.

2 Broke Girls dipped 3% to 3.6 (11.21m) at 9pm. Mike & Molly was down 6% to 3.1 (10.70m) at 9.30pm, while Hawaii Five-0 matched its previous score of 2.3 (9.63m) at 10pm.

Fox's Bones was down 12% from last week to 2.3 (9.02m). The Following also fell 12% to 2.9 (8.92m) at 9pm.

ABC's The Bachelor dropped 4% to 2.4 (7.80m) at 8-10pm. Castle was down 10% to 1.8 (8.77m) at 10pm.

NBC's The Biggest Loser fell to a new season low score of 2.0 (5.76m) at 8pm. Deception's matched last week's low score of 1.2 (3.12m) at 10pm.

The CW's Carrie Diaries climbed 40% to a new series high of 0.7 (1.55m) at 8pm. 90210 matched last week's 0.4 (0.79m) at 9pm.
