Clips from the interview will be previewed on its various news programmes, such as Good Morning America and Sawyer's own World News Tonight.

Knox achieved worldwide infamy for being convicted of the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and spending four years in an Italian prison.

The highly controversial nature of the trial led to Knox's conviction being overturned in 2011 and her release from jail.

Her story was dramatised by the Lifetime movie Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy, with Nashville star Hayden Panettiere playing Knox.

Knox's appearance on ABC will be in promotion for her upcoming memoir Waiting to be Heard, which will be published by HarperCollins.
