Production on the 13-part run will begin in April, with the series scheduled to premiere in July, according to TVLine.

The original Bridge focused on a joint murder investigation between Danish and Swedish police, while the FX version will focus on relations between US and Mexican cops.

Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) and Demián Bichir (Weeds) will play the leads, while Annabeth Gish (The X-Files), Ted Levine (Monk) and Matthew Lillard (Scream) will also appear.

Meredith Stiehm (Homeland) and Elwood Reid (Hawaii Five-0) penned the pilot script, which was directed by Mexican filmmaker Gerardo Naranjo.

A UK remake of The Bridge is also in the works - Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones), Clémence Poésy (Birdsong), Keeley Hawes (Spooks) and Angel Coulby (Merlin) will star in Sky Atlantic/Canal + co-production The Tunnel.
