'Law & Order' may live on if axed

US cable network TNT is apparently in discussions to pick up Law & Order next season if it gets the axe from NBC.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that franchise head Dick Wolf was talking to the network about the switch. The reduced production cost - Law & Order is already an expensive show - will be a key factor in the decision.
Both Law & Order and its spinoff Criminal Intent are facing the axe amid falling ratings, with prospects apparently "getting dimmer" as the network prepares to approve new dramas instead.
Syndication of Law & Order has been a key part of the TNT lineup for years, although ratings for repeats have started to drop off in recent times.
A decision on the future of both series will be confirmed at NBC's upfronts presentation next Monday.
