NBC has picked up a remake of The Bionic Woman starring former EastEnders actress Michelle Ryan for the 2007-08 TV season.
Ryan, who played Zoe Slater in the BBC soap for five years to 2005, will play the lead role of Jaime Sommers in what has been billed as a "reimagination" of the iconic 1970s series in which Sommers was played by Lindsay Wagner.
The original 1970s version of the show had Sommers transformed after a nearly-fatal skydiving accident into a woman with strengthened limbs, enhanced hearing, and the ability to run faster than a speeding car.
NBC Universal TV Studio will produce the new series with Battlestar Galactica's David Eick on board as an executive producer alongside Glen Morgan, Jason Smilovic and Michael Dinner. Battlestar's Katee Sackoff is understood to have been lined up to play Sommers' new nemesis.
