"I play Isabel, a new student who is finally Lisa's intellectual equal," TV Guide quotes Longoria as saying.

"They become fast friends, and then things take a left turn when they realise they have different political views."

The Desperate Housewives star admitted the role had been challenging as she is more familiar with live action roles. She also noted that she holds a different political stance to her character.

She said: "This is a big stretch for me not only because it's voice work, which I rarely do, but also [because] I'm playing a Republican and I'm obviously a Democrat."

Bridesmaids actress Kristen Wiig and Arrested Development star Will Arnett have also signed up as guest stars in the show's new season, which will air on FOX this fall.
