'Emily Owens, MD' creator gets new TV show 'Jane the Virgin'

Emily Owens, MD creator Jennie Snyder Urman is to return to The CW with a new television drama.

Snyder Urman's new project is an adaptation of Venezuelan telenovela Juana La Virgen, according to Deadline.

Snyder Urman's last project was 'Emily Owens, MD'.



The US adaptation - titled Jane the Virgin - will tell the story of a religious young woman who is accidentally artificially inseminated via a series of outrageous events.

The original Juana La Virgen aired in Venezuela in 2002 and has since aired across the world, being translated into nine different languages.

An Indian remake was also produced prior to The CW's US version entering development.

Snyder Urman's past credits include writer/producer roles on CW series 90210 and Gilmore Girls.
