CSI spin-off set for May launch

A spin-off of CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is set for a May launch, when characters from the drama are sent to a new location, Miami, to work on a case.
Airing May 9, forensics investigators Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) and Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan), the show will serve as a launchpad for the new themed show CSI: Miami. The themed show will subsequently launch sometime during the fall, and will be formatted in a similar way to its predecessor - although will feature some changes. For example, its characters will not be drawn from the forensics teams, but rather from the rank-and-file of the Police Department.
Jonathan Littman, executive producer, told USA Today: "The same way we treat Vegas as a surreal place, Miami is more of a grounded place. We're more inclined to do stories involving street crime or drugs, and [Miami] is much more of a political city as well. As they solve crimes, the ending could have wide repercussions."
