Washington was axed from ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy after allegedly using a gay slur against his former co-star T.R. Knight at the Golden Globe Awards in January.
However, he recently sealed his TV comeback by signing to appear in five episodes of NBC's Bionic Woman.
Jason Smilovic, the show's executive producer, defended the casting, saying: "We believe in second chances. We embrace the gay community and we're in no way making any judgments or statements about what was said or done (on Grey's)."
