Whoopi Goldberg has been confirmed as Rosie O'Donnell's replacement on ABC talk show The View.
The actress and comedian, who was rumoured to be taking the job earlier this week, will start work on the show when its 11th season begins on September 4.
Goldberg has already made guest appearances on the daytime series thirteen times and served as guest co-host in fourteen episodes.
"I have known Whoopi for years. She is brilliant, funny and irrepressible, and is an enormously popular and talented star," the show's main host Barbara Walters explained in a statement released by ABC. "We are delighted that she is going to join the programme as our moderator. This is going to be a great new chapter for The View."
Goldberg added: "It's a show I like with people I like, and I'm looking forward to it."
O'Donnell quit the series in May, following clashes with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck over the Iraq war.
