UPN drops axe on "Roswell"
Published Thursday, Apr 11 2002, 09:37 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Roswell is to return to UPN - for one last episode, the net has confirmed.
"The compelling finale will present shocking plot twists and resolve many of the distinctively romantic – and emotionally moving – storylines that have been the trademark of the fan-obsessed series," explained a UPN spokesman.
The fate of the sci-fi series has never been secure. On its original home at The WB, a second season seemed uncertain, but execs eventually bowed to a highly-publicised campaign by an army of fans to keep it on the air. That was not enough to save it again, however, and The WB finally axed the show in May of last year. UPN was its knight in shining armor and picked it up for a third season. The premise of more heated storylines failed to register with the viewers though, and the network put it on hiatus several months ago.
"I would like to thank Twentieth Century Fox Television, UPN and especially our fans whose combined efforts helped get us a third season for Roswell," said Jason Katims, executive producer. "Ronald D. Moore [exec. producer] and I had the fans very much on our minds when we were writing this final episode. We felt they deserved a great ending."
Roswell will end its series broadcast run on Tuesday, May 14 at 9pm ET/PT on UPN.
