The show, which was brought to the UK by LWT in 1992, pits spandex-clad contestants up against equally spandex-clad super-strong "gladiators".
"The 'Gladiators' brand is unlike anything on television today, and is event programming at its biggest and best," said Craig Plestis, NBC's executive VP for alternative programming, development and specials. "We feel it's time to re-introduce it to a new generation and take it to a heightened level of excitement."
NBC has green-lit a Reveille-MGM co-production of the revised format for a mid-season debut. The two firms will also work together to revive the format internationally, with MGM shopping the US version to other markets and Reveille exploring options to relaunch local versions.
