Bloomberg plans graphics revamp

Bloomberg is to alter the way it uses graphics to complement live financial coverage.

Currently, live anchored coverage appears as a box surrounded by data tickers on the right, stock tickers directly underneath that and a news bar displaying stories at the bottom of the screen. As of October, according to the New York Times, the channel plans to remove swathes of this extra material and replace it with "a cleaner, more contextual look."

Data from the Bloomberg Terminal, which is already used on air to present some types of graphical data, will be used to put contextual information about the story being covered on-air in the top-right and lower half of the screen instead of parts of the continual data flow currently present.

The channel's decision comes as Fox gears up to compete directly with CNBC in the television business news marketplace; however, Bloomberg is staying out of the fray by noting that it tends to target upscale business professionals rather than the wider audiences being lured by the two bigger names.
