Directors 'to abandon wait for WGA'

The Directors Guild of America is likely to start talks with movie and television studios on January 7 despite writers reaching no agreement, according to a report.
The DGA's negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) will look at terms for digital productions, such as payment for online sales, which are at the heart of studios' dispute with the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
The DGA has shared its information on new media markets with the writers' group. It has also so far waited for the WGA, whose members are on strike, but recently said it was becoming tired of the stalemate.
President Michael Apted said recently: "In order to give the WGA and the AMPTP one last chance to get back to the table, we will not schedule our negotiations to begin until after the new year, and then only if an appropriate basis for negotiations can be established."
Trade magazine Variety has now suggested the DGA wants to go ahead with talks from January 7.
