'Kath and Kim' to get US makeover
Published Wednesday, Feb 6 2008, 10:48 GMT | By Dave West

An initial six episodes will be made for NBC with Blair as daughter Kim and Molly Shannon as mother Kath.
The show, whose Australian incarnation has aired on BBC Two, is about the pair's dysfunctional relationship.
NBC had plans to order a pilot first. Channel co-chairman Ben Silverman explained it was instead getting a full season under a new straight-to-series approach aimed at cutting wastage.
He said: "This hilarious new series exemplifies how we are changing the pilot process by ordering shows that we believe in and green-lighting them straight to series.
"We are confident that this proven international hit will effortlessly translate to American audiences and we couldn't be more excited that Molly and Selma will be playing the leads."
The series will be produced by Reveille and Universal Media Studios. Gina Riley and Jane Turner, who created and starred in the original, will executive produce with writer Michelle Nader, Rick McKenna and director Paul Feig.
