A new version of the drama, about a government science advisor tackling threats like global warming and deadly viruses, is in the pipeline for CBS.
Shelton (Grindhouse) will play sidekick to the advisor as special branch agent Rachel.
In the 2006 four-part UK series Rachel was played by Ashley Jensen (Extras) and the advisor, Professor Ian Hood, by Patrick Stewart. His role this time has gone to Rufus Sewell.
Earlier reports said CBS had ordered a $4m pilot and 13 further episodes.
