Fox may develop an animated version of Australian comedy series Sit Down, Shut Up.
Mitch Hurwitz, creator of Arrested Development, is writing and producers are currently casting voice actors.
Fox will then hear an acted read-through of a script before deciding whether to take it to series.
In Australia the live-action Sit Down, Shut Up - about an incompetent teacher at a dysfunctional school - ran for just 13 episodes in 2001.
