It had been reported that producers David Zabel and John Wells were hoping to bring back Clooney and other former cast members for the show's farewell season later this year.
Zabel reportedly said Dr Carter (Noah Wyle) had been confirmed for a four-episode stint and Dr Kovac (Goran Visnjic) was also expected to return.
But Clooney denied that he has been approached to reprise his role as pediatrician Dr Doug Ross, saying: "We never even talked about it. No one has ever asked me. It's the funniest thing. The story came out, and I was like, 'Where did that come from?' It was everywhere - I mean in one day!
"I ran into John Wells two days ago on the lot … and said to him, 'What the hell happened?' He said, 'I don't know. I don't know where that came from.'"
