MTV has announced the acquisition of College Television Network's assets from CTN Media Group. CTN broadcasts via satellite to 750 college campuses and is available on dorm cable systems in around 150.

Judy McGrath, President of the MTV Networks Music Group, explained why they'd chosen CTN for acquisition: "We've been serving and interacting with college students since MTV began airing in 1981 and we are always looking for ways to strengthen our ties to this vital population. By acquiring CTN, we now have a terrific means of deepening our connection with a critical part of our audience."

MTV plans to provide a music mix of tracks from MTV and MTV2, along with new original content specifically made for CTN. CBS News and CBS Sports will provide programming on the network specifically targeting the 18-24 demographic, and MTV will provide pro-social programming adapted from output on its main network.
