ABC has ordered pilots of three new police shows and one family-friendly comedy.

Drama Castle is from film writer Andrew Marlowe (Hollow Man) and about a horror author working for the NYPD homicide department.

The Unusuals is a comedic drama set in a New York police station from the writer of Bones.

Another police drama, Finnegan, centres around the Los Angeles organised crime unit and its tough female detective chief.

Meanwhile, Bad Mother's Handbook is a half-hour comedy about a 32-year-old woman looking after her 16-year-old daughter and 48-year-old mother.

The show is written by Help Me Help You creators Jennifer Konner and Alexandra Rushfield.
