The show is currently being piloted and is expected to get the go-ahead for a series shortly.
McShane will play charismatic King Silas who takes a young warrior, played by Christopher Egan, into his court. The story is loosely based on King David.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Kings, along with fellow pilot projects Knight Rider and My Worst Enemy, were likely to be given series orders this week.
