William Shatner has revealed that he had no idea his Star Trek co-stars hated him when he was filming the show.

Writing in his autobiography Up Till Now, the actor said he spent years trying to rectify his relationships with his castmates after the series ended in 1969.

According to the New York Daily News, he eventually grew close to Leonard Nimoy (Spock), who helped him cope with his third wife's alcohol addiction.

Model Nerine Kidd drowned in the swimming pool of the couple's California home in 1999. She was later found to have alcohol and Valium in her body.

The book also discusses Nimoy's drink problem and the outcry caused by Shatner's screen kiss with Nichelle Nichols (Uhura), the first inter-racial clinch aired on TV. He alleges that she, James Doohan (Scotty), George Takei (Sulu) and Walter Koenig (Chekov) all told him to his face that they loathed him.

Shatner recently claimed that he had never watched the show, despite playing Captain James T. Kirk from 1966 to 1969 and in seven subsequent movies.
