Spears to make third sitcom cameo?

Britney Spears may make a third guest appearance in US sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

The show's co-creator Craig Thomas said the singer's second cameo, which airs on CBS tonight, leaves the door open for a return next season.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: "She was better than the first time and I think the fans will enjoy it because her return answers a larger mystery set up earlier in the series.

"So there's a good plot reason why she's there. And when people watch Britney's second appearance on the show they'll see that the door is still open for her to come back."

Spears's first guest spot was praised by critics and earned ratings of 10.6 million, an increase of almost 2 million on the programme's season average. It has since maintained higher audience figures than last year and is expected to be renewed for a fourth season.
