Megan Mullally joins 'Bad Mother'

Megan Mullally has signed up to play a needy grandmother in US comedy pilot Bad Mother's Handbook.

The show centres on a 32-year-old mother (Alicia Silverstone) whose life revolves around looking after her mother, played by the Will & Grace star, and her teenage daughter (Alia Shawkat). A pilot is in production for ABC.

Meanwhile, Annie Potts (Men in Trees) and Amanda Detmer (What About Brian) have joined an as-yet-untitled ABC comedy pilot about a 30-something woman and her dominating family, workmates and friends.

A list of actors have also been cast in Finnegan, a drama presentation also for ABC about a tough female Los Angeles detective. Tzi Ma (24) will play the detective's boss while Domenick Lombardozzi (The Wire), Jacob Vargas Moonlight), Malachi Weir and Tasha Smith have taken roles as her colleagues.
