NBC has announced a new reality show set to air in the spring or summer of next year - entitled Race To The Altar, it'll follow 16 engaged couples as they battle it out for a "fantasy primetime wedding".
The show will place challenges on the 16 relationships - with the audience voting in the second-to-last episode as to which couple should win the wedding.
Jeff Gaspin, Exec VP of Alternative Series, Longform and Programme Strategy at NBC Entertainment, explains: "This is a reality show that will take the trials and tribulations of preparing for a wedding and push it to the limit.
"Here we have 16 couples who feel they’re ready to commit to one another for better or for worse. I think it will be quite telling how those relationships hold up under the strain of the challenges we’ll throw at them."
The series will be screened in eight one-hour episodes, over which the couples will face "a variety of challenges designed to test the key points of marriage - teamwork, compatibility, compromise, sex, trust, honesty and coping under pressure." Unpredictable situations, where the couples will have to work together to get through, are also promised to keep the tension high.
TWI is developing the series with NBC Studios - Bob Horowitz, Senior VP of TWI, said: "We're excited to be teaming with a network that has a tremendous track record in developing and sustaining successful reality series.
"The advantage here with NBC is the fact they already have a strong viewer following on the topic of relationships and marriage through their Today show weddings."
