Tommy Lee will lend his voice to an animated TV series, Variety reports.

Based loosely on his own life, The Life And Times Of Jimmy Jaxx is in development at Fox with the team behind 2007's comedy hit Blades Of Glory.

Lee, the drummer for heavy metal band Motley Crue, said: "I've always loved the animated world. How fun and kooky is this gonna be, to combine some real-life experiences with some seriously over-the-top humour?"

John Jacobs is executive producing the series along with writers Michael Davidoff, Steven Ilous, Bill Rosenthal and Steve Freeman.

Davidoff praised Lee for being "very generous and open with his life".

"He told us some great personal stories, like the time he filled a bathtub up with Cherry Icees for his kids," Davidoff said. "He didn't expect that they'd end up being dyed red."

Lee recently starred in his own reality show, Tommy Lee Goes To College, and served as a judge on Rock Star: Supernova.
