'Bad Girls'

ITV women's prison drama Bad Girls is being remade for the US.

Big names behind the project include Alan Ball, who created drama series Six Feet Under and wrote American Beauty, and Eileen Gallagher, a co-creator of the UK original.

Bad Girls, focusing on inmate and staff relationships, ran for eight series on ITV1 until 2006.

The US remake is being developed for subscription cable channel HBO. The writers are Nancy Oliver and Raelle Tucker, who are both working on upcoming HBO series True Blood, with Gallagher and Ball joining the pair as executive producers.
