The actor, who reprises his role as Carrie's lover Mr. Big in the movie version of the TV series, criticised "knock-offs" for imitating its veneer rather than its substance.
He told reporters: "Rightly or wrongly, people like to focus on the fashion... or the bad guy, but beneath all that, Michael (Patrick King, director and writer) is very intuitive but specific, and he's got a very sensitive ear to the rumblings of what's going on in today's world. And he's able to then transmute that into story and character."
Talking about the entertainment industry in general, he said: "I just happen to believe that people over 35 are more interesting than people under 25, but somehow we've gone amiss in our culture thinking that's the kind of entertainment that we're supposed to be watching. I've been waiting for years for teenage entertainment to take a back seat."
Noth added: "[Sex And The City: The Movie] is an adult romantic film. Not that kids can't enjoy it but it's not going to be Gossip Girl or anything like that, and it shouldn't be."
