NBC has unveiled a new spin on the "talent search" reality TV format that brought success for shows like Pop Idol and Popstars; this time the network is searching for new comedy talent.
The series, which has been picked up for eight episodes, will conduct a nationwide talent search for male and female comedians, both professional and non-professional. The schedule for auditions is as follows:
- December 15: Chicago, Blue Chicago (736 N. Clark)
- December 18: St. Louis, MO (location TBD)
- January 5 - Atlanta, GA (location TBD)
- January 8 - Houston, TX (location TBD)
- January 12 - San Francisco, CA (location TBD)
- January 16 - New York, NY (location TBD)
- January 23 - Los Angeles, CA (location TBD)
Once the selection is narrowed down to ten finalists, after the semi-finals in New York and LA and the finals in Las Vegas, the show will follow the comedians as they live together in a house and compete for the top prize - an exclusive talent contract with the NBC network.
The series will be hosted by actor/comedian Jay Mohr, who also serves as executive producer alongside Peter Engel of Saved By The Bell fame, and Barry Katz. It is expected that the series will air during the summer of 2003.
