Speaking to Collider, Rogen said Simpsons producer James L. Brooks was a fan of his teen comedy Superbad.
He said: "We called The Simpsons and asked if we could write an episode. Evan actually met James L. Brooks at a party and James said he really liked Superbad, so we thought there's our in. Maybe we could ask to write a Simpsons."
Knocked Up star Rogen added that the episode would likely air during the show's 21st season.
"I don't know how [the process] works exactly," he said. "They just told us to get them the script over the next couple of weeks and then I assume it goes to animation. So I don't know, maybe next season?"
Traditionally, The Simpsons uses an in-house writing staff to pen episodes. However, Ricky Gervais recently wrote and starred in an episode of the long-running Fox comedy.
