Dennis Hopper to star in 'Crash' series

Dennis Hopper has been announced as a star of the upcoming Crash television series.

The actor will play maverick music producer Ben in the show based on the 2004 movie.

Other stars include Clare Carey (Jericho) as frustrated mother Christine and Luis Chavez (Ocean's Thirteen) who plays Cesar, a poor immigrant on a brutal journey to the US.

Crash is set in Los Angeles and promises to "explore the complexities of social tolerance in contemporary America by digging into the meaning of what it takes to reach the American dream".

As in the movie, characters will "intertwine and crash into each other, coming face to face with the daily hurdles and obstacles that threaten to get in the way of achieving that dream".

The 13-part series will air on US cable channel Starz in the autumn.
