The actress, who plays Tracy Strauss on the NBC show, told E! News that she was trying to remain positive that the drama would be renewed for a fourth season.
"[Cancellation] would be terrible in my book. The cast just loves the show," she said. "If the network doesn't want to bring us back I'll be really sad, but you know what, I just can't even go there.
"I think that the show was so strong first season, and we'll come back and get it back to where it should be."
Co-star Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman) fuelled speculation that the programme could be axed after posting a message on his Twitter account, reading: "Tough to say goodbye to crew not knowing if any or all of us will return next year."
His message prompted Larter to respond with her own, saying: "Greg is a Twitter. Tell him to shush!" Grunberg later backtracked on his original statement, assuring fans that the show would be returning.
NBC has until mid-May to decide on its new season lineup.
