Heroes: Safe for 2009-10
The pickups come ahead of the network's Upfronts presentation on May 19, when it plans to unveil its full lineup for next year.
Among the new series are two medical dramas, Mercy and Trauma, as well as the movie-inspired Parenthood, from Friday Night Lights exec producer Jason Katims.
The slate also includes Day One, a new "event drama" set in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event that devastates the world's infrastructures. The series, from former Heroes exec Jesse Alexander, will launch on NBC after the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
The two comedies are 100 Questions, about a woman looking for love, and Community, following a bunch of misfits in higher education.
The network also reaffirmed previous indications that Heroes would be returning and confirmed a new season of freshman sitcom Parks and Recreation.
NBC has previously confirmed renewals for 30 Rock, The Office, Law & Order: SVU, Friday Night Lights, Celebrity Apprentice, Southland, Medium and The Biggest Loser.
Shows still waiting to hear their fates include Chuck, My Name Is Earl, Life and the original Law & Order series.
